Christianity: continuity, presence and conflict
CTBI Conference, Cardiff 29/30 April 2014
This year, following the request from the Welsh Churches, we took as our main topic the situation that our Christian sisters and brothers are facing in the Middle East at the present time.
Our keynote speaker was the Archbishop Emeritus of Haifa His Excellency Elias Chacour, who over his long career has been a staunch advocate for non-violence and peace and reconciliation between Arabs and Israelis, Jews, Christians and Muslims. He has written extensively about Christianity in the Holy Land and will share with us some of his thoughts on the present context of the Middle East.
In addition there was the opportunity to hear from others with expertise in Egypt, Syria and Iraq as well as Israel-Palestine. The aim was to help raise awareness of the current situation faced by Christians in the Middle East and suggest ways in which we - the Churches of Britain and Ireland - might be more effective in supporting them.
